It continues to be the Spartans Class of 2020 students and parent/guardians responsibility to check emails/texts/phone call outs in order to receive information. This page will serve as a space for copies, but may not always be inclusive, of previous Skyward Messenger/School Messenger communications sent only by Ms. Bishop. There may be additional emails posted here from other staff members that are integral to your success. All other communication is present on the SHS main webpage.
Email sent to all registered Skyward email addresses from Mr. Gex, building principal: (August 2016)
The faculty and staff at SHS want to send you a big welcome back! Monday is going to be an exciting day. As you renew your friendships and meet new people, we want to thank you for a fabulous 2015-2016 and look forward to the 2016-2017 school year. Fall practices have begun in sports, theater, and music. The teachers have been in staff development learning new things that are happening in the district. They have been diligently preparing for your return and to welcome in the Class of 2020. Mr. Gex certainly will be making a call to you before Monday morning.
We wanted to ease some of the anxiety by telling you where to report for the first day homeroom. Look for where your name falls in the alpha split. Notice the room number and the teacher. Please arrive before the 7:40 bell rings. Remember, "We are Spartans!" Have a great opening day.

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ August 2016:
Hello All,
Doing some house keeping to ensure a less bumpy start to the school year. Please read all the way to the bottom:
1. Before you come to Rush on August 18th during your alpha time, you must go on to the SHS website under the RUSH link and complete all the information. ssh.springbranchisd.com
This step is a must.
2. On the day of Rush, August 18th per your alpha assigned time to be present, you will only get a list of courses, but not an actual schedule with periods and times. THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT DAY.
a. Your job that day is to see if what is listed/scheduled is what you want. Remember,
some classes may be full and that athletics may cause a change later
in your schedule.
I will only make athletic changes when information is sent directly to me, by the
assigning coach.
b. You get your ID and textbooks in addition to your list of courses. If you are not able
to come to Rush, then you will have to wait until the first week of school to get your
schedule, ID, and textbooks. The schedule will be in your homeroom on August
22nd. You will have to go to the bookroom either BEFORE or AFTER SCHOOL to
pick your textbooks.
It must be noted that you cannot send someone to come get your items on Rush Day. You, the Spartans Class of 2020 student, must be present. It is OK if life has you somewhere else on August 18th, just know that you will be responsible for getting the textbooks on your own. There will not be an assigned time again (like Rush) to get textbooks.
3. On the day of Freshman Orientation and Link Crew (August 17th from 8:00am to 11:00am), if you cannot attend, that is ok. This day is to get you used to SHS and for your to meet people. It is not a requirement, but sure does help with those first day butterflies.
One thing must be noted, schedules cannot be changed after school starts until the first progress report. There are only certain situations that schedules can be changed (including, but not limited to athletics).
The unique thing about being a Spartans Class of 2020 student is that you are blazing the trail when it comes to graduation plans. If you have older siblings, friends, or know parents of older/former students, your whole high school experience will not be the same as theirs because of the new requirements for graduation which you have been hearing about since middle school. At this point in time, you are set on the right path. If you have questions or are curious about how something works, when something must be done by, or if you want to know anything about your experience at SHS, email me directly. Better to hear it from me than to get incorrect information. If I don't know the answer, I will send you in the right direction.
Remember, check your email all the time and the Spartans Class of 2020 website. Everything is listed there, always.
I look forward to meeting you all in a few weeks.
(I have attached again the schedule and information for Rush.)

28 July 2016
Hello Spartans Class of 2020 Students and Parents/Guardians,
This email is an introduction as well as one packed with information for all incoming freshman and family members. My name is Carrie Campbell-Bishop and I have been afforded the opportunity to see the Spartans Class of 2020 through the next 4 years. We share a common goal beyond seeing our students graduate, I am a Stratford America community member and a mom of four, with 2 being SHS freshman and 2 attending Memorial Middle School.
As the SHS 9th grade counselor, I am coming to SBISD from The Original Katy Elementary in Katy ISD where I had the honor of being the counselor for 6 years. This is my 16th year in education with 11 of those being in counseling in Katy ISD and Conroe ISD. As a classroom teacher, I was in special education for 4 years in Fort Bend ISD and Shelby County School, Alabama. My State of Texas Certifications include Elementary Education, Social Studies/History 6-8, Professional School Counselor ages 3-21, Special Education ages 3-21, and Principal/Administration. My educational journey began in Oklahoma, where I graduated from the small town of Pauls Valley, obtained a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Oklahoma, Masters of Education in Counseling from Sam Houston State University, and Principal Certification Course work at the University of Houston-Clear Lake. Being a life long learner is hard-wired into my philosophy regarding how I will work for each individual Spartans Class of 2020 student.
My overall goal for every Spartan Class of 2020 student is to provide them with the tools necessary in order to be responsible for their own future and educational process with us as parents/guardians and educators guiding them along the way. Self-Accountability will be what drives success and achievement, and assures that every student graduates in May 2020. Additionally, I am here to support parents/guardians of each Spartans Class of 2020 student; we can all be nervous on the first day of school and throughout this entire process!
Below is my Spartan Class of 2020 webpage that will be a life saver for all of us as we venture through the next 4 years together. Be sure to update all Skyward information as soon as possible because this is a requirement to begin the Rush process and the absence of this quick task will delay your freshman in getting his/her schedule on August 18th. The information in Skyward is used as the main communication tool with you, the parent/guardian, and your Spartans Class of 2020 student. Attached is a letter with all the information about the 2016 Freshman Rush, as well as links to important documents for Rush, and dates/times per alpha letter.
Though I may be your child's academic counselor, I understand that we only have 4 years left with our children at home before they venture into the world of career and/or college. Therefore, it is important to understand we, as parents/guardians of Spartans Class of 2020 students, are walking this Post-Secondary journey together and will have many things to learn along the way.

Spartans Class of 2020 and Parents/Guardians,
Well, we have almost survived our first semester in high school. From this point forward, you will need to make sure that you finish strong and have passing grades for each class. Remember, there are tutorials before and after school each day for almost every class on campus. Check with the
teacher(s) about the day(s) of the week and time(s) they do tutorials or look on our class website, listed below, where there are at least the 4 core classes listed with tutorial teacher names and days of the week.
High school is vastly different than middle school/junior high, so you will be experiencing your first round of true semester exams. If you have not already done so, take the time to look at the SHS homepage and sign up for Power Reviews. The information was sent out by Mr. Herrington, the Sophomore counselor, earlier in the week. The link is right at the top of the SHS homepage. The day for Power Reviews is Saturday, December 10th from 8:00am to 1:00pm. This is a completely voluntary study opportunity and there is a fee associated with each session. You can do up to 3 sessions and is a first sign up, first to get into the session. If you cannot be available on the Power Review day, you will need to coordinate with your teacher(s) and/or attend tutorials as much as you can between now and December 13-16 when finals will take place. The attachment includes all the information you need for finals week. The best thing you can do right now is start gathering all the information needed to study for those semester exams and TALK TO YOUR TEACHERS!!! The more you know, the better you will do on exams.
For next semester, you will get a schedule the day we return after the break. Also, hopefully by mid --January you will have been to my office so that we can review your 4 year plan. If you have already done the plan with me, at this time they are not available for parents or you to see. The opening of this information/tab is done by the district, not me. So, when it is available for your to see, I will send an email out with the information on how to view this in Skyward. We will also enroll for next school year at some point in January, but for now, let's finish this semester with success.
You are half way through your freshman year, you have made it this far, and the rest of the year will be much better.

Parents and Students,
Well, we all survived the first semester of our Freshman year. The next semester will be a great one now that we all know what is expected in high school and what we need to do to continue on a successful track.
Classes do begin tomorrow at 7:50am (make it a goal to be here every school day by 7:40 so that you know you are on time for class). Mr. Gex did a call out last night explaining the first day back on campus. To recap - you will come to school, look in the hallways to find the classroom you are assigned that morning by your last name, and you will receive your Semester 2 schedule.
Additionally, if you did not receive the call out, be sure to check your information in Skyward.
As far as 4 year plans are concerned, I am not aware of the district making these viewable at this time through Skyward. For most of you, we have already met and started the process. There are, however, some students that have not met with me yet to begin the process (we have over 500 Freshman this year!). Don't panic if we have not met yet to begin the 4 year plan. We will enroll for the Sophomore year (2017-2018 school year) toward the end of January 2017. I will discuss how we will handle this in more detail once I receive the electronic copy of the course selections and post it to our class website for the 2017-2018 school year. In a nutshell, you will enroll in what you want to take and when we meet to start a 4 year plan, if a course you enrolled in is not on the 4 year plan we develop, changes will be made at that time.
By mid - February, I will send out information on the Naviance program. You can now begin looking at the information on our classroom website listed below. Most of you have been in the program before in your 8th grade year when you did some career exploration. At this time, I do not have user name password access for parents or students. Again, more information will come mid-February in an email.
See everyone tomorrow, January 4th! We got this Freshman thing down; high school is not so tough now that we survived the first semester.
Best Wishes,
Ms. Bishop

Email January 9, 2017
Parents and Spartans Class of 2020 Students,
Hopefully everyone has started off 2017 with more confidence and with a better idea of what is expected then when you entered the doors of SHS in August. High School is not so scary, just a lot of work. Remember, if you have any issues, come to me first and if I am not the right person to help, I will find the right person. Also, if you have questions about courses requirements and etc. come directly to me and we will work together for your success. Sometimes my office is full and things are a bit busy. Be sure to leave me a written message or email me directly and I will definitely get back to you as soon possible. There are times during the year that are far more busy than others, so patience is greatly appreciated.
Spartans Class of 2020 Students: if you were in SBISD last year, try to use the Naviance program like you did in 8th grade for career exploration. You can find the connecting tab on almost any SBISD website, our class website, or the SHS website.
At this time, I do not have user name and password information, but I will hopefully by mid-February (see Jan 4th email for more information). I am told that you need to try your SBISD email address first and then request a new password. Hopefully you did not use a personal email address (if you did then the same would apply). Everything you do with school is best done using school identifiers such as the issued SBSID email address. Check this address often.
The following items on our Spartans Class of 2020 website have been updated (or added) with the following information:
1) 2017-2018 Course Selection Booklet.
2) Information on 4 Year Plans.
3) Previous email communications.
There was an email sent on January 4th with information about enrollment and the 4 year plan. Please review this email in Skyward or on our class website listed below.
On viewing the plan already developed, I am told that through the Skyward DESKTOP version, the plans are viewable. My ability to see what you so as a student and parent is not functional, hence this is information being communicated to me at this time. Please do not make any changes to a 4 year plan without communicating with me first. These plans can and will change. At this time, I will be working through the final students to work on their 4 year plans and any changes to previously developed plans will be done later in the semester. Right now, the goal for everyone is to preview the Course Selection Booklet on our class website and get an idea of what you want to take next year. All information about endorsements, course requirements, sequencing, and etc. is on our class website. Please preview this carefully so that you can understand our 4 year process together.

Remember, I work for you, the Spartans Class of 2020 student(s), communicating with me helps me do my job for you.
Have a great semester!

Email sent February 7, 2017 to all registered emails in Skyward:
Spartans Class of 2020 and Parents/Guardians,
Please be sure to read this email in its entirety. Typically, I do not send long emails, but this is the one time that there will be a lot of information. Additionally, it is imperative that our spartans2020.weebly.com website is reviewed after reading this email. There are many times that questions can be answered or found after reviewing the website.
1. If a student has already completed a 4 year plan with me (or with our Intern under my supervision), the plan is viewable under the STUDENTS Skyward Access under the Online Forms Tab. This must be done on a desktop and not on a phone. I am asking that at this time, please be cautious of changing anything directly on the plan, and please email me if you have any questions after looking at our website for possible answers. It has been noted that the core subjects, on the 4 year plan, do not show up at this time when viewing. I do not have a solution to this issue and will be reporting it to the district Skyward department. You can however, see the electives discussed at this time. Please review the 4 Year Tab on our class website for more information.
2. We have started enrollment for the Sophomore year. Please do not worry or panic if we have not met one on one about your 4 year plan. We have about 520 + students in our class and it takes about 20 minutes per student to visit with me and start the plan after a "4 Year Information Binder" is read by the student (some students did not read the binder because I was saying the information directly to the student and the binder now saves time and allows the students to read information then ask questions when we meet). On our website, is the PowerPoint that will be shown to all Freshman during their Social Studies class under my direction. That PowerPoint sets out exactly the sequence of classes as well as other information in order to enroll. Once we enroll, we can change things if needed because there will be 3 opportunities before June to make changes on your course request sheet (this includes changing any endorsements or updating 4 year plans). The course request sheets will be sent home in the mail, so at this time, please review your mailing address for accuracy.
If you were absent on the day that we enrolled in your Social Studies Class, please do not worry. We will enroll you at a different time. It is asked that you email me directly if you missed the date.
At this time, I am not updating 4 year plans or modifying any previously developed plan that was completed with me. Students are welcome to change (enroll in) what they want to take after working on the 4 year plan, but it is cautioned to refrain from actually making changes directly on a previously developed 4 year plan in Skyward. The projected time frame to make changes with Ms. Bishop is around mid-April. All transcripts are reviewed in June once all grades are complete and any changes that I see that are not on the right track (or don't fit a 4 year plan or endorsement), will be addressed at that time. Again, if you have questions about any/all courses, graduation plans, and endorsements, please look on our website and the SBISD Program of Studies document also on our website.
3. Summer School. Please check on our website under the Summer School tab for updated information. At this time, it is also suggested that if you are interested in summer school to check often on the SBISD website for updates. At the time of this email, the only information I have is on our class website. Once more information is available, I will send a Skyward message. In this tab there is also information about the Math and Science sequence that affects some students who are in Algebra I (GL or PAP) during their Freshman year.
So, for now the best thing to do is look at our class website and check the endorsements and the graduation requirements. Look at the 4 year plan tab, and read all the information there too. Currently, all of the counselors are enrolling all SHS students as well as students from the 2 feeder middle schools. If you have specific questions, you can email those to me and I should be able to answer them over the weekend or when I get a moment in between enrollment class periods. Thank you for your support and patience as we work to ensure student enrollment is completed because this can limit my immediate response time to any emails or phone messages.
Spartans Class of 2020, remember this: Your life at Stratford is about credits. In order to get credits, you will need passing grades and to attend class regularly. Continue to work toward achieving those credits and you will be setting yourself up for success while at Stratford and beyond.

Parents and Spartans Class of 2020:
In this email (it has a lot of information today):
1. Houston Prep Opportunities to earn high school credit.
2. Latest update on summer school.
3. Description of changes made to our class website
4. Info on Naviance and Road Trip Nation.
5. Reminders about 4 year planning.
6. Enrollment for those students who missed the date in their Social Studies class.
7). Date to make course selections/enrollment changes
8) A Thank You.
1) We are excited to announce that the Houston PREP 2017 summer program has been funded and will take place this summer. Houston PREP is an intensive mathematics-based pre-college enrichment program that is held each summer at the University of Houston - Downtown. The program is free to students and transportation will be provided to our students from two locations within the district. The program will run from June 12-July 21, 8:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. We estimate that students will return to the district at about 3:30 p.m. each day.
The eligibility criteria for Houston PREP are as follows:
We highly encourage students who have attended in the past to attend again this summer. Each student who successfully completes the program will receive one (1.0) high school elective credits. Students who are in their fourth year with the program may also earn dual credit from UHD provided they have met college readiness requirements.
For more information about Houston PREP, please visit: https://www.uhd.edu/academics/sciences/outreach/houston-prep/Pages/hou-prep-index.aspx
If you are interested, please follow the instructions on the site above.
2) At the time of this email, I still do not have any SBISD Summer School Information. Once the information comes out, an email will come through Skyward.
3) Please check our class website, as I have added/updated the Endorsement Tab with much more user friendly formats to understand the endorsements.
4) On our class website is the information on Naviance and how to log in. As a parent, if you do not have an account, I will be able to provide more information at our next Peer Meeting (Parent Meeting). The date for this meeting has not been set yet. Once a date is set another email will come through Skyward.
Road Trip Nation: a website that works with Naviance through the College Board. It is a great place to start especially if you don't know what you want to do once you are done at Stratford. Everyone should have at least a College Board account....it is important that you do. As far as the College Board, any questions or issues must be addressed directly to the College Board. I have no way of fixing issues, log on issues, and etc because that is a very controlled site due to the sensitivity of the information and importance it has with your score and university entrance information. You can get to the Road Trip Nation through the College Board site or Naviance.
5) Please remember that 4 year plans are not a must at this point in time (and not a must for enrollment at this time). It is best that you start looking at things on our class website. I will get to everyone hopefully by mid-April. Parents, you can also go to our website and see lots of information. Students you can show your parents the 4 year plan (filled out or not done with me yet) to see the format of what it looks like and the spaces in the plan for classes This can only be done through the student's Skyward Account and is found under On-Line Forms. There is also a preview of the binder you will read when coming to work with me on the plan. There are 520 plus students in our grade and it takes about 30 minutes or so to work with each student, so this is a process that will take time.
6) We will enroll as a group for those students who did not enroll during their social studies class time on March 1st. If you are not on campus on March 1st, I will get with you as soon as possible. A note will be sent to class for you to bring with you and work on your course selections (enrollment). At this time, you do not need to email me that you will not be on campus on March 1st. I will run a report and find out who still needs to enroll. We will take care of this if you are not on campus....no worries.
7) March 1st is the last day that you, the student, can change a class/course you enrolled in Skyward at home. Remember, there will be 3 more opportunities to change classes after this date. Those changes will come in the form of a mailer with the opportunity to cross out and write the changes you would like to make to your class/courses selected for next year. So if you want to change something after March 1st, then you need to wait until one of the 3 mailers comes to your home. Instructions on what to do will be on the form.
8) Each student is important to me and my goal is to take the time with each kid as best I can, therefore, it takes time to achieve this goal. Thank you all for your patience and understanding as we work through enrollment and 4 year planning.
The best place to start when you have any questions is always our class website. If an answer to your question is not there, please email me.
Keep doing your homework (because that is important), going to tutorials if needed, and pass your classes so that you can receive credit to graduate.

Best Wishes,
Ms. Bishop

- Applicants must have successfully completed the 8th or 9th grade prior to entering the First Year of PREP.
- Applicants must have a B or better overall average (C or better if enrolled in honors, enrichment, or gifted and talented classes) in their academic courses during the 2016-2017 school year at the time of application.
- Applicants must have satisfactory conduct grades throughout the academic year.
- Only students who have successfully completed the First Year are eligible for the Second Year, and only students who have successfully completed the Second Year are eligible for the Third Year. Students who have successfully completed Third Year are eligible for Fourth Year.
